GROUP TRAINING -BASKETBALL
With engaging and varied group training, coaches can develop skills and foster team chemistry simultaneously. Collaboration and friendly competition keep groups united and motivated.
-
Kids will work in multiple groups. This allows adequate repetitions and coaching attention.
-
Structure each session around a skill theme like ball handling, shooting, defensive slides, etc. Tailor to team/group needs.
-
Incorporate partner and small group drills to maximize reps when you have limited balls/baskets. Use stations.
-
Implement competitions and challenges between groups to raise intensity and engagement. Keep it fun.
-
Focus on proper technique early in drills then increase speed, defenders, penalties as players improve.
-
Use timed and scored drills to track progress over sessions. Celebrate new records.
-
Get all players involved rather than waiting turns. Have extra coaches to provide feedback.
-
Add in conditioning drills like lane slides, defensive shuffles, core work, and sprints too.
-
Allow short breaks but keep the pace intense. Use music, encouragement, and incentives.
-
Incorporate "games" related to skills focused on that day - 3v3 shooting games, 2v2 post play, etc.
-
Review video together and set group and individual goals. Foster teamwork and accountability.
-
Close each session with scrimmaging to apply skills in game-like conditions.
-
Gather feedback from players and tweak future sessions accordingly. Make it collaborative.
